Captain Amazon

Captain Amazon is a small start-up not-for-profit news and information organisation, founded in early 2020.

We publish summaries of news related to environmental, biodiversity and climate issues. Our summaries always originate from legitimate sources such as the Guardian, WWF, Greenpeace (Unearthed), Mongabay, etc.

Apart from news, we also conduct and publish original academic research completed by members of Captain Amazon's staff. The primary focus of these projects is deforestation and forest issues driven by commodities such as palm oil, soy and cattle ranching. We also complete research on climate change framing, frames and policies, particularly relating to far-right populist politicians and parties. We believe this is an area that is lacking research and insight. Therefore, we consider this to be one of our most important initiatives. Finally, we conduct research related to agriculture and livestock, with a major focus on the commodities mentioned earlier and the cattle industry. We are strong advocates of animal rights and aim to inform people about animal abuse and its impacts.

We specialise particularly on the tactics of protest movements and counter-movements, as well as the responses of corporations, small businesses and governments to environmental and animal movements. We conduct research into environmental politics, justice, ethics and green criminology. We also use theories within these and other environmentally-related fields to expand individuals understanding of environmental, biodiversity and climate issues. We also provide suggestions for solutions to these issues, including policy proposals.
