The cattle industry is, in the case of factory farms, inherently abusive, as it exposes cattle to harmful practices that cause immense suffering.

The practices that the industry engages in, and the methane that cows release when they burp and fart also contributes immensely to climate change. Methane is responsible for 25% of global heating and is approximately 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide.

Deforestation, particularly in the Amazon, is a common practice within the cattle industry. The demand for soya to feed livestock is also a driver of deforestation.

Palm oil and deforestation go hand-in-hand in Malaysia and Indonesia, where 90% of the world's palm oil is produced.

The oil is used in food, detergents, cosmetics, biofuels, and personal care products. It is almost impossible to escape it.

Yet, it is vital that we do, as palm oil contributes to biodiversity and habitat loss, climate change, child labour, and modern slavery, soil erosion, water and soil pollution, land disputes and the displacement of indigenous people.

Pesticides include insecticides (kills insects), herbicides (kills weeds), fungicides (kills fungus), rodenticides and antimicrobials.

They can be used on crops, household items, flowers and golf courses. Additionally, pesticides may be found in schools, swimming pools, and parks.

Many pesticides are harmful to human health and can cause cancer, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's and other neurodevelopmental effects.

Alike the cattle and palm oil industry, soya is one of the main drivers of deforestation. In fact, it is the second greatest contributor to forest clearances worldwide.

Apart from deforestation, the soya industry also contributes to soil erosion, water and soil pollution, the displacement of indigenous communities and human rights abuses, including the murder of indigenous people.

Most soya is not produced for people, but for livestock and poultry. 3/4 of all soya is converted to animal feed, while the rest is used to make products such as soya sauce, tofu, and meat substitutes.
