Fossil Fuel Emissions Cause 4 Million Deaths Per Year

Updated: Apr 30, 2020

Greenpeace have found that fossil fuel emissions are responsible for 4 million premature deaths each year, whereof 40,000 of these cases are children under the age of 5. Thus, the death rate of air pollution is three times higher than that of road accidents and it costs the global economy $8 billion per day.

Apart from endangering people’s lives, fossil fuel emissions cause respiratory issues for millions of people each year. Annually, 4 million children develop asthma and 16 million kids have already developed the condition as a result of exposure to vehicular exhaust from diesel and petrol cars. Greenpeace suggested that the solution to this health emergency is simple. The world must make a quick and swift transition from fossilfuels to a clean transportation system.
