One in ten U.S. poultry slaughterhouses failed government salmonella tests in 2019. In some health and safety categories the failure rate was as high as 34%. This means that the poultry industry missed their target to reduce salmonella outbreaks, as incidences increased by 9% over the last three years. Since 2013, meat and poultry recalls have also grown by 65% due to animal products being linked to outbreaks of diseases.
