Indonesia has scrapped a ban on exports of baby lobsters that aimed to conserve wild lobster populations. Conservationists now warn that the species is at risk of depletion as a result of Indonesia's actions, in spite of the new rules including a requirement to set an annual quota and limit the number of areas in which lobsters can be caught. Experts have urged the government to disregard the new rules in favor of developing a sustainable lobster aquaculture that focuses on traditional, small-scale fishermen.
